These exciting outings traverse vineyards, citrus plantations, meadows, olive groves, and the Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve. There’s something for every level of mountain biker to relish in this part of the world as well as a host of dog-friendly walking and running trails, and plenty to eat and drink once you are done.
Capaia Wine Estate Mountain Bike Trail
With 140-hectares to explore, you’ll find no shortage of places to burn rubber at this Philadelphia wine estate, 30-minutes from Cape Town.
The trails were designed by Adrian Winsor of Trail Blazers, SA and incorporate stunning vistas of both Table Mountain and the Swartland Hills.
You can trundle out along the Jeep track or pump up the adrenalin on heart-thumping single track through the hills.
Afterwards, refresh at Olivia Deli or Mariella’s Restaurant where bikers are welcomed with open arms.
Make your way to Botterberg Road and let the Philadelphia fun begin.
Muratie Wine Estate Mountain Bike Trails
No mention of the winelands is complete without Stellenbosch. This area boasts a wealth of mountain bike trails, each with their own charms.
Muratie Wine Estate stands out for its challenging single track built by Meurant Botha and the Dirtopia team. This outing’s best suited to experienced riders and winds through the Simonsberg Mountains.
Need something a little more low-key? Try some of the other tracks through the forest above the cellar, suited for bikers of all levels as well as walkers.
