The 41 in Camps Bay
Simple by name and simple by nature, The 41 is named after its 41 Victoria Road address, right in the heart of the Atlantic Seaboard’s crown jewel, Camps Bay, and epitomises straightforward, stylish Cape Town luxury.
Owners, Bravo Gilles Blanc and Nicholas Da Costa, arrived in Cape Town in 2015, having left their mark on the hospitality industries in Singapore, Laos and Australia. They were so impressed with “the creative innovations and overall level of quality within the “Foodie” scene in Cape Town” that they never left.
The packed bars and restaurants of the Cape Town scene, prompted the couple to team up with local chef, Aristotle Ragavelas, to add their own brand to the bandwagon in October 2016. Their brainchild, The 41, delivers just the right mix of comfort and elegance, luring well-heeled beachgoers and connoisseurs of cuisine alike from their playground on the city’s hottest strip.
Chef Ragavelas comes armed with a seriously impressive resume which included experience in all the right places. He is the owner of popular “Ragafellow’s” Restaurant in Hout Bay, and was instrumental in crafting the award-winning menu at Knife & Fork Restaurant’s in Cape Town and Byzance in Johannesburg. Internationally, he is no stranger to Michelin-accreditation in restaurants across Greece.
Together this trio dishes up a wonderful assortment of inspired cuisine, with hints of European influence. The Mediterranean flavours enrich familiar South African fare, served with inspiration and accompanied by the Cape’s finest vineyard offerings.
Breakfast is sure to give you refreshing beginnings with healthy options, the best kinds of Eggs Benedict, fluffy egg-white omelettes, French toast, traditional fry-ups and even a breakfast burger or pizza. Fresh juices, flavoured teas and aromatic coffees add the finishing touch.
Crispy thin-crust pizzas and fat gourmet burgers make a reappearance on the dinner menu along with ostrich, kudu, beef, pork, seafood, croquettes and noodles, everybody’s favourite vegetables and inviting salads. Vegan, Halaal and banting-friendly meals are available too.
The dessert menu is simple and satisfying with chocolate mousse, fruit salad, cheesecake, grilled rum-caramel pineapple, and a ‘blonde’ brownie up for grabs.
Come cocktail hour, The 41 lights up the night with live acts and unique spirit blends while the passing parade of beach fashion and high street trends keep the eyes roving.
If location is everything, then The 41 has it all. Reinvented from the previous Tuscany Restaurant which once inhabited this hallowed spot, The 41 is a feast of architectural brilliance. The plate glass façade towers over the beachfront, offering panoramic views of the ocean.
