Easter Eggs for Africa

Easter Eggs for AfricaEaster Eggs for Africa

It’s Easter time and chocolate is everywhere.  Supermarket shelves all over Cape Town have been overrun by thousands of chocolate bunnies, eggs, and even chickens as they prepare for the commercial excess of another holiday season. It’s seems that these brightly wrapped Easter creatures come out to tempt the unwary earlier and earlier every year, and they seem to be growing in numbers too.  I find myself fighting the urge to give them all a good home every time I nip out for a loaf of bread.

Although Easter-egg chocolate in any form has magical qualities all of its own, there are a few luxury Cape Town chocolatiers that provide that extra special something that puts them in the upper echelons of sweet-toothed society.  What’s more, these chocolates are made with the love that comes from years of practicing a fine art, and can be crafted to any specification, even branded or personalised if you choose.

So where do you get your hands on these paragons of pleasurable perfection?

Beautiful both inside and out, Saszali Handmade Chocolates are packaged in unique and exquisite wrappings.  Created from only the best couverture chocolate, these chocolates are infused with herbs, spices, fresh fruit, and flavoured teas, for unusual flavours to match their external originality. You will find these luxurious offerings at City Bowl Market on Hope Street in Gardens every Saturday morning.

Roland Ramm, of The Chocolate House has been practicing his art since 1984 and it shows.  His shop has been voted the Best in the Western Cape by Cosmo magazine and is filled with creams, pralines, ganaches, fondants and truffles.

Cocoafair, Cape Town’s newest chocolaterie, produces, locally-produced organic chocolate which is not only ethical from bean-to-bar, but reasonably priced too.  Stock up on pralines, truffles and plain bars at Cocoafair.

If the above ticks all the boxes for you, but you prefer something darker, Honest, Raw Organic Chocolate creates fantastic dark chocolate along with bonbon truffles, chocolate spread and simple chunky slabs.  These delights are on offer at the Neighbourgood Market, Wellness Warehouse and other elite deli’s in Cape Town.

So there you have it, the best places to grab a bunny this Easter – luxury Cape Town at its finest.
