Kayaking in Cape Town

dolphin-1679468_1920Get out there and explore with a sea kayaking adventure in Cape Town. This Cape Town luxury experience is accessible to, and enjoyable for all ages from 10 years up and provides unforgettable views and experiences out on the waters of the Atlantic.

The kayaks provided are sturdy and safe and the exercise is little more taxing than walking up a hill, so there’s no need to worry about falling out or exhausting yourself in the process. Apart from the basic safety briefing provided, you need no special training or equipment. You will be provided with a lifejacket, but it is a good idea to dress warmly as it can be chilly out on the water.

Kayaking takes place from two venues close to the city and while the trips are weather dependent, booking is essential.

Simons Town
Departing at 9am from the jetty in Simon’s Town, these tours last about 2 and a half hours, taking you past the naval harbour to see the ships and on to Boulders Beach, where you can view Cape Town’s famous African penguins from up close as they play in the water or waddle along the sands.

Along the way, you can expect to encounter Cape fur seals, fish swimming under the kayak, numerous seabirds and whales in season (June to November).

Green Point
These trips leave from Three Anchor Bay, and involve a 3-5km paddle to either Granger Bay or Clifton Beach, although half-day trips may be arranged for those with previous paddling experience.

Clifton
The views of Signal Hill, Lion’s Head, Table Mountain, the 12 Apostles and Clifton, with its rocky white-sand beaches, surrounding mountains and indigenous fynbos, are simply stunning. You will be allowed plenty of time to relax on the water and admire these vistas before returning to base.

Granger Bay
On the way to Granger Bay, scenes of the Green Point Lighthouse and the wreck of the RMS Athens will come to light, and you may be lucky enough to be accompanied by some of the local Heaviside dolphins as you paddle along.
Curious seals and dolphins will join you along both these routes, and from July through to December your chances of whale sightings are especially high.

Experience a new kind of Cape Town luxury with an awesome ocean kayaking adventure.
