Ok, this activity is for the brave only, but if you are in Cape Town, this is an absolute top of the list must-do experience. Paragliding – an adrenaline filled activity that is safer than you may think.
Just imagine a birds-eye view of beautiful Cape Town with just the quiet breeze and your own thoughts for company. If you don’t have the experience or confidence to do this alone, then there is a tandem paragliding option for you.
Paragliding in Cape Town is done mostly from Lions Head and Signal Hill. Flying can last from 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the weather, but set aside at least one and a half hours for the activity. You won’t have to do much, except trust the experienced pilot who will make sure you get the most ‘air-time’ possible.
Once you have taken the jump, you will have no other choice but to savour each minute and take in the grace and beauty that only the luxurious setting of Cape Town can offer. You will literally feel like you are soaring with eagles, and once the fear wears off, peace will overwhelm you and the moment will be over much too soon!
Your flight will slowly unwind towards the end, when you will land in either Camps Bay’s High School sports field or at Sea Point Promenade. The bonus feature is that during every flight the pilot is equipped with a wide-angle camera that captures every moment, and even you in action! You can buy the film after your trip as the ultimate souvenir.
This is a different type of luxury Cape Town experience, but definitely well worth it. It is a little outside of the norm and will challenge your comfort zone. We can recommend taking the plunge, as you are sure to have the experience of a lifetime. There are many similar ways of catching a glimpse of Cape Town, but tandem paragliding is right at the top of our list.
