Sunsets and sundowners down south

Every Thursday evening during summer, visitors to the Cape gather at Cape Point Vineyards wine farm overlooking the pristine Noordhoek coastline for the Cape Point Vineyards Community Market and to take advantage of summer’s late sunsets.  Here an eclectic group of people from families with small children, students, executives and retirees make up a fun festive atmosphere sharing great meals and sipping craft beers and delicious wines is the ‘norm’.

What started as a handful of food vendors under a Bedouin tent, quickly expanded into a brick and mortar building when, within a matter of weeks, word of mouth spread and the events popularity exploded.  There are now over 25 food stalls where several small, local producers have joined forces to offer residents of the area and visitors the opportunity to get together and sample not only the wines produced on the farm, but a myriad of gastronomic offerings from fresh oysters to giant woks of paella to chocolate and caramel pancakes and loads more in between.

There are long tables inside for those who wish to stay out of the heat of the sun but the real gem is outside where the view includes kids having fun in the play area, people sitting on the grass under the huge trees which surround the dam, and of course an unobstructed view right across the Noordhoek Valley to the beach and out across the endless blue ocean.

Be sure to arrive as close to opening time as possible if you want a seat, as it fills up quickly.
The Noordhoek Community Market is hosted by Cape Point Vineyards on Chapman’s Peak Drive every Thursday evening from 4:30 to 8:30 in during the summer months.
