‘Weather’ or not you celebrate Easter in Cape Town
Regardless of the time of year, the Mother City is always alive with amusements and you will find luxury Cape Town activities to keep you entertained any day of the year, regardless of the weather. This Easter is no exception, with a host of hopping good fun on the go, chocolate in every form imaginable and plenty of other ways to celebrate this autumn.
While the April days are definitely shorter and cooler than those of summer, temperatures rarely drop below 16°C and the summer southeaster, known fondly as the Cape Doctor, has taken leave of the coast by now.
Get out there
Mild weather promises opportunities for walking, biking or rollerblading along picturesque seafront promenades. Heading further afield into the winelands, adventurers can take up horse-riding, hiking, mountain- and quad-biking, boating or a chance to spot the Big Five on a game drive.
Action seekers can abseil, zip-line, kayak, paraglide, scuba dive, cable-ski and mountain climb to their hearts content. Those looking to chill and unwind will find an indulgence of massages, therapies and relaxing treatments at some unique spas and wellness centres both in and around the city.
In the case of rain
If raindrops fall then there is plenty of opportunity for indoor retail therapy with malls, boutiques and trendy shops to discover. Food for thought is offered at galleries, museums, theatres and studios all over the city.
Culinary explorations may be found both indoors and out this autumn. Taste award-winning wines, whiskies, chocolate and nougat or sample farm-produced meals at wine estates, or gourmet foods at five-star restaurants, grab a pub lunch and an artisan beer at a cosy inn, pop into sidewalk cafés for a coffee, try a little bit of everything at a street market or get it all at the V&A Waterfront – there’s something to match your mood every mealtime in the Mother City.
Do your bit for your family by attending one of the Lindor chocolate workshops at the V&A waterfront to learn the art of confectionary, while Easter egg hunts at Spier Estate, Bugz Play Park and at Kenilworth racecourse add traditional joys to the holidays.
Autumn in Cape Town is a photographer’s dream come true. Lovely shades of autumn await discovery in the shady picnic spots of Newlands, Constantia and Kirstenbosch Gardens, while the winelands beckon with a palette all of their own.
Windless conditions make this the perfect time of year to take a trip to the top of Table Mountain in the cable car, play a round of golf at internationally renowned coastal courses, a helicopter flip around the Peninsula or spend a quiet day relaxing on white-sand beaches (although the water may prove a little chilly for a dip).
Discover the gentler side of the Mother City this autumn, with luxury Cape Town adventures to suit your style.
